Why I’m Running

I am running for the Brookline School Committee as an educator, a parent, and someone who takes civic engagement seriously.

After earning a PhD in American History at Boston College, I have been teaching World History, U.S. History, and U.S. Government for 15 years to students of various ages, abilities, and learning styles. I help my students understand how democratic institutions work, how to lead with integrity, and why thoughtful disagreement is essential to a healthy society.

I’m also a parent in the Public Schools of Brookline. I want my children—and all PSB students—to be challenged, supported, and known as individuals. I want them to love learning, feel safe taking intellectual risks, and graduate prepared for whatever path they choose.

My professional and personal background shapes why I’m running for School Committee, and also how I make decisions. As a researcher and historian, I am trained to ask rigorous questions, examine evidence, and draw conclusions based on what the data shows, not just what feels right in the moment. At the same time, I carry the compassion gleaned from kitchen table conversations with my family about the joys and struggles of learning.

I love Brookline, and I’m grateful for all that our school district has provided for my family and so many others. Our schools have extraordinary strengths, and I want us to continue building on them while striving to do more and better for every student.

I look forward to bringing my civic commitment and educational expertise to the School Committee role.
