Every Child: Seen, Supported, Challenged

I’m running for School Committee as an educator, a parent, and a committed member of this community.

I believe deeply in public education, in civic engagement, and in showing up to do the work.

Brookline is an exceptional district, and I want to help ensure it continues to grow stronger—serving every student with excellence, care, and purpose.

I strongly support Laura Baines-Walsh for School Committee. She is an experienced, accomplished teacher who embraces all students and their individual needs and talents. She is a Brookline parent, deeply committed to our schools. And she is a really good person. Please vote for Laura!

— Dr. Bob Weintraub, School Committee Member, former BHS Head of School, TMM 8

My Priorities

Clear educational goals and benchmarks

Establishing districtwide goals that include a rigorous, coherent curriculum and appropriate, leveled classes, so teachers can better meet the needs of an academically diverse student population.

Technology policies

Educators, families, and students are worried about how technology affects learning and school culture. We need policies to reduce distraction (including cell phone use during the school day) and promote healthy and responsible use of digital tools.

A stronger middle school experience

We need strong academics, as well as clubs, athletics, and other extracurricular opportunities for our young adolescents.

Good governance

Public trust is built through clear budgeting and reporting, responsible internal oversight, and long-range planning to sustain fiscal health.

Critical thinking and civil discourse

Our policies and curricula must encourage fact-based analysis, respectful dialogue, and the civic skills students need to participate in a democratic society.

Meeting all students’ needs

Every student in Brookline should have access to the programs and support they need to thrive.  PBS should direct resources toward programs that are proven to work, while keeping our limited dollars flowing to our classrooms.

Laura is a veteran teacher and knows what it takes to make schools work. She'll be a great addition to our School Committee.

- Gary Shiffman, former BHS Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator, TMM Pct 9

“Laura is exactly what the Town needs on the School Committee. Her intelligence and measured, thoughtful response to challenges is something the Town would greatly benefit from!”

- Adrienne Bowman, PSB grad and parent, Boston Public School Teacher

Laura is a perfect candidate. If elected, she will be a breath of fresh air.

- Nathan Shpritz, former Brookline Fiscal Advisory Committee (BFAC) and PSB parent

Laura is smart, thoughtful, and skilled at looking at all sides. She’s an excellent consensus builder. She will work with School Committee members and central administration with a focus on educational excellence. Her priorities clearly articulate exactly what our school system needs.”

- Deb Abner, Lincoln School Librarian, former PSB parent

“Laura is deeply committed to Brookline and its schools. As a Town Meeting Member for seven years and a parent in the Brookline Public Schools, she understands our community from multiple perspectives. I know Laura as both a parent and an educator, and her experience and vision will help move the district forward.”

- Ginny Carroll, former Pierce School educator
